< Prev Next >
Para-monastic institutions in Thailand, like the Sathira Dhammasathan meditation centre, not allow the lay nuns ("mae chees") to held a temple, but not deny them to practice the spiritual life. Increasingly "mae chii" can be found in these independent ?nunneries? or "samnak chii" where they undertake domestic duties, grow crops, practice meditation, undertake studies in the dharma and, increasingly, provide teaching in the dharma and meditation to lay Buddhists.
