Thai nuns carry out evening meditation and offer reverences to Buddha at the Sathira Dhammasathan meditation centre. Despite the most often Thai society consider nuns to be spiritually inferior to monks, every year several women enter nunhood in Thailand. The mae chees enter to live in or around some Buddhist temples (or "wat") ruled by abbots, where they perform a variety of roles related to the upkeep of the monks, including cooking and cleaning; or in the nunneries, which are just a few trhoughout Thailand, but ruled by female lay nuns.
