Azzi was rendered a half widow on 8th March 2000, when Gulam Kahr, her 40-years-old husband was forced to leave his home after had been interrogated and beaten in front of his family by 40th Ratchpur army regiment. Gulam has still not returned. Indian army tried to be deterrent to close the case offering to the family 1 lack (around 2000 dollars), but Azzi's still been reluctant: "We want the body, we don't want their money".
