A KIA soldier rests from his duty in Maiya Jang front line at the top of the mountains, the second largest city under control of the Kachin Independence Army. The KIA positions around the city have been attacked by shelling and heavy artillery during last months. Fierce clashes have taken place since the ceasefire was broke by the Burmese army last June 2011. During months the fighting were spread out along the Kachin State leaving more than 40,000 displaced persons and refugees (a conservative estimating) in accord with the humanitarian aid groups.
